Collaborations

Rebecca Rich & Jessika Wood

Tits & Cats!

This collaboration began completely organically at the beginning of COVID-19. For us, it is about risk, trust and freedom. We have a “no rules” rule and pass things back and forth multiple times. This is a place where we do things we probably would never do in our own work—collage, cutting, patching, painting over, repainting, adding chickens.

Our roles, to the degree that you can define them, are that Rebecca is the ground and Jessika is the figure, but we dissolve this relationship in the passing. The figure and ground are now in conversation but they are coming from two different artists. Our work is in a concurrent conversation; both sides happening in the same work simultaneously.

There is a self-contained nature to the work, the sense that the figures aren't concerned with the viewer or the outside world. They inhabit a world all their own and are very content within it. This could be a result of quarantine or our need to create a world where women can just be.
