PAINTINGS 3

The paintings offer the experience of being inside yet not, , they welcome you and are available but not yet wholly evident . The layering isn’t about a source of light but instead where the light bounces, a spatial effect for volume, geometric light planes, and levels of intimacy. The exterior gestures and large scale marks tell you that you aren't yet inside- compression opens up a new space, using incised marks and layers. The new space is created from tension and compression- bouncing from edge to center and tension created from pushing off edge, light and color are choreography that generate tension. The sequence and journey of contrasts between spaces, light, color, layers and marks seek translation of understanding and illumination from being included. The edge gives containment to inhabit actively- an atmosphere of warmth. not one continued space although it appears to be on first viewing.
